Heavily impacting the French-speaking music scene and seeping into the international scene slowly but surely, Angèle Van Laeken’s debut album Brol is as wholesome and complete as could be. This singer-songwriter’s first release is a testament to her skills and hard work.

A distinctively elegant brand of electronic pop inspired by French hip-hop and chanson française, paired with candid but sharply topical lyrics, this album is a social critique in musical form. A great deal of Angèle’s lyrics are characterised by the portrayal of a landscape of superficial individualism, the struggles of insecurity, jealousy, hypocrisy, internet fame and instagram accounts, making the 23 year-old’s songs highly relatable to her generational peers. 

All twelve tracks feature Angèle’s soft and haunting vocals, which prove a real joy to listen to. With her versatile voice, neat tunes and elegant and aesthetic style she is certainly the figure that the French-speaking pop scene of her generation needed.
