For their third LP, Asbury Park’s Dentist build on solid indie pop/surf punk foundation they started in 2013 culminating in their strongest album yet.

Across 10 air-tight, singalong pop nuggets, the band manage to cover a lot of ground lyrically, from scorned lovers (“Don’t Let Me Catch You”), summer flings (“Check the Calendar”) to looking back on a long life (“The Pilot”) to a tribute song for the band Alvvays (“Never”), Dentist offers an eclectic range of topics, all delivered with Emily Bornemann’s captivating Debby Harry-esque vocals.

While the surf guitars here are an unmistakable hallmark of the band, they clearly draw on influences across the musical spectrum, like The Pixies and Nirvana's quiet/loud/quiet template.

Thanks to a new generation of band like Beach Rats and Dentist, the Jersey Shore’s musical legacy may finally be remembered for more than just a slew of Springsteen also-rans.
