Label: Don Giovanni Records For every unrequested pop punk band reunion,The Ergs! remain on the wish list of many. Though the Jersey trio have sadly not decided to get the band back together full time, despite a handful of surprise reunion shows since 2008, the good folks at Don Giovani (a highly underrated indie label, by the way) have re-released the band’s debut full length as a 10-year anniversary gift to fans of The Ergs! Dorkrock is explosive and upbeat, categorized as pop-punk because of its heartfelt tributes to girls and its geeky, nasal vocals. Hyperactive finger-thumping bassist Joey Erg (Joe Keller) and riff-raff rocking guitarist Jeffery Erg (Jeff Schroeck) surround their punk rock Renaissance-man lead vocalist and drummer Mikey Erg (Mike Yannich) on Dorkrock. The album unravels with remarkable continuity as transitions between songs are seamless and track numbers lose meaning. Dorkrockcorkrod is just as wildly fun today as the year it came out. It’s not worth singling out any specific songs here, because much like their obvious Ramones influences, each on is fun, infectious and over too soon.
